If you need some extra income to supplement your job, or you’re a stay at home mum or dad looking for ways to make some extra money to help to make ends meet, a small home business could be just what you need.
Starting a small home business is much easier than it was before the internet, and anyone can start a small home business with little or no capital.
One of the easiest ways to get started if you have something to sell, is to open an eBay seller account. Perhaps you have a hobby that involves making arts or crafts, or maybe you have items that you could sell. If so, its easy to get started on eBay and there’s no setup fee, you just pay a small amount to list each item, and a commission on the amount it sells for. Don’t fall for the hype and buy eBooks training courses or ready-made websites that are ‘guaranteed’ to make you money by doing virtually nothing, because until you have some idea what you are doing, they almost certainly wont.

Blogs started as online diaries where people wrote about what they were doing, but these days many are more like information sites with articles about a specific topic. Its likely that you have a hobby or interest that you could write about to share experiences and advice that other people with the same interests are searching for.
If you provide useful content about something that is reasonably popular but that doesn’t have millions of sites about it already, it is likely that you will get traffic to your blog quite quickly, and if you include affiliate links to products or services that someone looking for that information is likely to want you will make a small amount of money from each sale that you refer.
There are various kinds of affiliate programs, but the best known and most popular is Google Adsense. After signing up for Google Adsense, you just put a small amount of code in your blog (don’t worry, its all explained on the Google site) and that displays relevant ads that you earn money from when visitors click on them. You can easily make this back quite quickly if you buy a business that serves a need you already have some expertise in, but do check how the business currently makes money, and how much, before you buy to make sure its something you will be able to do.

The work can be enjoyable of course, and if you like writing about something you know, it might not seem like work at all, but you will need to put in some time and effort.
